It’s behind you….

Green buses – green engines that is, not the colour. Fine, but as I was cycling home the other day, I found one side effect.

I look behind me constantly – convinced that eye contact with drivers is crucial as if they think you don’t know they are there they tend to push up close. Keep listening as well.

However, as I plugged away into the prevailing westerly wind I suddenly became aware of something. I glanced back to find a huge double-decker bus just behind me – its hybrid engine is very quiet.

The key to safe cycling is keeping alert to what is happening around you…
