Platform 9

28 September 2011

The work done on Paddington’s platforms 9 upwards is now done. What a difference – light, clear, less clutter on the access routes. The roof looks great and you can actually tell if the sun is out. Makes you remember the pain of rebuilding. As more work is done at Reading, and London Bridge’s works kicking off soon, it’s crucial that the needs of passengers are taken into account during these big rebuilds. Everyone wants to see more money spent on the railway, but how it is spent is very important. Passenger Focus has done a lot of work in this area. The conclusions are clear – it’s all about communication. Before, during and after. The Christmas Reading closure set the benchmark for this. Very well done.
