Are trains and buses better abroad? From my experience some are, but quite a lot aren’t. Reassuring to find in Lille, when trying use the tramway recently, that the ticket vending machines are just as frustrating as ours. Given the ticket structure is simple – single, three-ticket carnet, or day rover, the machines were very poor. Graffiti on the screen made them hard to see, and it was not at all clear when you could use tickets. Not much user testing there!
