Fresh rail strikes announced – passenger watchdog responds

15 July 2022

Commenting on the announcement of strikes on two days in late July and two in mid-August by the Aslef and RMT unions, Transport Focus chief executive, Anthony Smith, said:

“Passengers will be frustrated that, again, their arrangements may be disrupted. It is crucial that talks continue to find a solution that avoids passengers being continually dragged into this industrial dispute.

“Train companies should keep looking at the specific areas for improvement we identified from the June strikes about refunds, compensation and clear information. If the strikes go ahead we will again monitor the impact on passengers and on those who cannot travel.

“While not all train companies are affected by the Aslef strike on 30 July, the impact on passengers attending Commonwealth Games events, in particular, needs to be carefully communicated.”
