Transport User Voice – April 2020 – Chief executive’s editorial

27 March 2020

Scary times but we’re still working for transport users

Scary times. Transport has really been in the news as governments and operators have moved to run services, amend timetables, get information out, manage their own staff, unpick existing contracts and agreements and, in some cases, get new contracts in place. By and large it has been done well with everyone pulling together and Government standing by the transport industry in this crisis.

Transport Focus and London TravelWatch continue aiming to be useful, while still representing the interests of those still having to travel. Jointly we have focused on three key issues:

  • how good are revised timetables and other information?
  • how clear are refund arrangements and terms?
  • are slimmed-down networks fit for purpose?

See this link for our updated Coronavirus information and work.

In the background much of our work continues. We will conclude and publish existing insight and other reports on our website. Some fresh work will be started. Stakeholders will hopefully find the information, such as the 2019 Bus Passenger Survey, useful as staff working from home will no doubt continue to work on longer-term issues. We will publish an interim workplan soon so you can see what is coming out from us in the next few months.

So, stay safe, stay at home if you can and keep away from others. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
