National Highways interactive dashboard

Highlighting the good and bad areas of performance is a vital part of improving transport services for users. The Office of Rail and Road’s (ORR) new interactive dashboard makes identifying these areas easier than ever when it comes to our strategic road network.

ORR’s benchmarking tool measures and compares performance and efficiency across all six National Highways regions. It provides national and regional time series data so that efforts can be better focused to improve outcomes for road users.

Performance is measured in part by a set of Key Performance Indicators which are targeted measures. Targets are set by the Department for Transport (DfT) for each road period, with road period 2 set to end in March 2025.

One of the KPIs used to report on National Highways’ performance is road user satisfaction – ‘the percentage of drivers who are satisfied with their journey on the strategic road network’. This is measured by the Strategic Roads User Survey (SRUS) carried out by Transport Focus back in October.

Our SRUS data provides National Highways with a detailed picture of user opinion down to individual roads to help them make the necessary improvements. Now, with ORR’s dashboard, this data will play an even larger role to drive forward meaningful improvements as part of our commitments to minimise disruptions and improve satisfaction for all passengers
