Watchdog welcomes zero emission bus investment

26 March 2022

Today the Government announced funding to deliver electric and hydrogen powered buses across England.

By 2030 the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles will have ended. This would mean that from 2032 at the very latest the sale of all new buses powered either in part or totally by an internal combustion engine would cease to be allowed.

Anthony Smith, chief executive of the independent watchdog Transport Focus, said:
“Zero emission buses will be increasingly key to helping public transport play its part in achieving Government decarbonisation targets. More investment in new buses is really welcome. New vehicles, with modern attractive facilities, plus a focus on passengers’ key priorities of reliability and value, will tempt more people to give the bus a go.”
