Bus Services Act 2017 – Transport Focus reply to Consultation on Accessible Information

18 September 2018

The Department for Transport has consulted on ways to improve information for bus passengers through the Bus Services Act 2017 and accessible information regulations.

It wants to introduce regulations that require bus operators to provide audible and visible information on local bus services to help people identify:

  • the route and direction of services
  • each upcoming stop
  • points at which diversions start or end.

The Government intends to specify when this information must be made available and to what standard, leaving it up to operators to select equipment or processes that work for them. The consultation document is online and here we publish the response from Transport Focus.

We welcome this well constructed consultation which reflects significant discussion with stakeholders and sets out its detailed views on each of the core proposals
