Disabled rail passengers research

08 July 2019

This research commissioned by Transport Focus on behalf of the Department for Transport (DfT) explores a range of accessibility challenges that arises for disabled rail users.  This was conducted by research agency Illuminas and was used to inform the DfT’s  Inclusive Transport Strategy.

Among other things this research highlighted issues disabled passengers experienced during their rail journey. The stage with the highest proportion of problems was  ‘on board the train’, with many of these involving toilets, priority seating and anti-social behaviour.

This research is summarised in the DfT Research on experiences of disabled rail passengers report.
