Transport Focus responds to Wales rail infrastructure inquiry

01 March 2021

The House of Commons Welsh Affairs Committee is running an inquiry into the responsibility, funding and investment in rail infrastructure in Wales.

Transport Focus has submitted this response. It highlights that more work is needed to invest in the rail network in Wales and the Borders and calls for strategy and the assessment of needs to be more closely aligned with passenger priorities. The model in Scotland has led to passenger benefits, although different infrastructure in Wales will make it harder to replicate and greater devolution will remain an area where co-ordination and collaboration are crucial.

The impact of Covid-19 means there is significant work to do in rebuilding confidence, reducing barriers and encouraging people to experience the benefits of travelling by public transport again. Our insight points to key areas where efforts should be focused and Transport Focus is ready to help with measuring and assessing needs, aspirations and delivery from a user perspective.
