The great Easter getaway – how might Britain travel?
27 March 2018
Flying has been voted the most popular way to travel by holidaymakers ahead of the upcoming Easter getaway.
Transport Focus asked nearly 3000 people about their preferred way to travel for a holiday in Britain or going abroad.
In the survey about half of holidaymakers intended to fly while around a third said they would travel by train – this was the most popular choice for solo travellers.
The number of people intending to go on a staycation within the UK or taking a break on the continent was split fairly evenly, with another 14 per cent venturing further afield.
When deciding on how to get to the airport it was a near even split for people intending to use their own car, train or taxi.
Getting to the airport using the train was considered the cheapest option.
Toby Cotton, panel manager at the independent transport watchdog, said:
“The getaway for Easter tends to be one of the busiest of the year so it’s important that no matter whether people are travelling by plane, on the roads or train that they have the right information in advance of their journey.
“With snow predicted people travelling across Britain will want to see our transport networks ready to cope with another wintry spell.”
