Transport User Voice – December 2016 – A smarter way to travel
29 November 2016
Transport ticketing is once again a hot topic.
The Secretary of State wants to see smart ticketing across the rail network by the end of 2018 – and tickets that can be used across all types of transport are high on the agenda at Transport for the North.
To help the transport sector understand what passengers want from smart ticketing we have published three new reports as part of our Smarter Travel series.
Smart ticketing in the north: what do passengers think?
We asked people about their current perceptions of travel within the region, and their needs and wants from a smart ticketing system.

Paying for public transport with contactless – what do passengers think?
Building on the work we did in 2014 around using contactless cards for rail travel, we asked how people are currently using contactless outside of London. We also asked what they think of being able to use it for public transport.

Smart ticketing in Brighton: what do passengers think?
The key smartcard has been available on Go-Ahead’s buses in Brighton for several years now, but other smaller operators did not until recently have smart capabilities. We reviewed a pilot of smart ticketing on two smaller bus companies, talking to both passengers and drivers.
