Transport User Voice – October 2016 – Anthony’s editorial

26 September 2016

Welcome to your new-look Transport User Voice, bringing together all the top stories from our work representing road users, and passengers of rail, bus, coach and tram services.

We’ve long said that there are no ‘rail passengers’ or ‘road users’ – we all use multiple modes of transport, sometimes on a daily basis. Our staff look at themes across the transport world, and we have recently reorganised our structure to make this even easier. For a who’s who please click here.

In this issue we have updates on:

  • some forthcoming roads research
  • the bus passenger survey
  • Southern rail services
  • and rail franchising generally.

If you’re on Twitter then please feel free to share anything you read here. Our usernames are @transportfocus and @anthonysmithTF and we love to hear from our readers.

As ever with our work, if you like it – let us know! Or if you have any comments, suggestions or other feedback I’d be delighted to hear from you. You can contact me directly via email or the newsletter editing team via the communications team email.

We’re getting out of the office and coming to Birmingham in November. While some colleagues will be at the Highways UK conference at the NEC, our Board will be meeting in public there. You’re welcome to come along and join us – the meeting is at 2pm on Wednesday 16 November. That evening we’re also hosting an evening reception at the Library of Birmingham. To find out more or book your place, please email Vanessa Kerns.

Meanwhile, Highways England is currently trialling electronic signs on the southbound M5 between Bristol and Exeter which inform drivers of the price of fuel at motorway services. If you’ve seen them what do you think of them? Are they useful? Click here to find out more and have your say.
